Virgil Hales, a 36-year-old Butte College student, stands before the Board of Trustees at his public disciplinary hearing for smoking pot on campus. Hales, who has a doctor’s recommendation for marijuana to alleviate stress and anger, was suspended through the spring 2005 semester. Kathy Michelet spoke on behalf of Hales and said they will appeal the suspension under the federal Americans with Disabilities Act.
