Your wake-up call

Vienna Teng, thanking her lucky stars that her parents preferred that particular roast of coffee to French.
Some artists are adroit at lining their ducks in a row. So it is with Bay Area singer-songwriter Vienna Teng, who plays The Space at 2509 R Street on Wednesday, May 7. Teng writes intricately detailed, thoughtful songs and sings them in a sensitive but straightforward manner, accompanying herself on piano. She’s been featured on NPR, she’s been on Late Show With David Letterman (who liked her music enough to offer a testimonial), and she’s got a filmed documentary of herself performing, just in case, along with a Virt Records album titled Waking Hour. Because at least half of life is having everything lined up and ready for when the wheel of fortune rolls your way, it’s a no-brainer to say that Teng’s time will come, sooner rather than later. The show starts at 8 p.m., and admission is $10 general and $8 for students.
