You record it, SN&R reviews it
First, let’s introduce something new: Each week, this little corner will feature a review of a new musical release—CD, vinyl, cassette, digital, USB—typically from local artists, occasionally from touring acts passing through and less frequently just something we feel like jagging about. Anyway, this week: Musical Charis’ new EP, Electra City Church Bells, which dropped this past Christmas Day. The verdict? It’s an adroitly produced five tracks, sounding a bit like the vibe on R.E.M.’s Green album, except a bit more cheery and a bit straightforward in its songwriting. Recorded as far away as Seattle and as nearby as J Street Recorders, ECCB is Musical Charis’ preview EP to a full-length, which the band will begin recording this winter. CD release show with Autumn Sky this Saturday, January 8, 8 p.m.; $10 includes CD, $7 if you already own it. Beatnik Studios, 2421 17th Street.
