You are invited!
Turning 21 is a biggie. At age 21, Alexander the Great was already king of Macedon. By 21, Tupac had dropped 2Pacalypse Now. And when Lindsay Lohan went legal, she’d already racked up two DUIs and multiple stints in rehab.
Well, we’re not royalty, or a rap god, or a dysfunctional starlet. But we at SN&R are on the runway, anyway, to celebrate our 21st anniversary of publication in Sactown. And the best news is that you, dear reader, are cordially invited to join in our fun.
The invite: This Saturday, May 22, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., cruise by our new building at 1124 Del Paso Boulevard for SN&R’s 21st Birthday Bash on the Boulevard. There’ll be food, drinks, a beer garden, games and vendors. Did we mention entertainment?
Longstanding underground hip-hop troupe the CUF, who’ve been rapping as long as we’ve been printing pages, will headline. Indie-electronica foursome Sister Crayon, who’s new video saw play on VH1 recently, will co-headline; along with Autumn Sky, the local chanteuse who’s as old as SN&R; plus the indie-soul sounds of ThouSands; venerable DJ Shaun Slaughter; the Streamliners, featuring former SN&R film critic Mark Halverson; and DJ Rated R, who’ll be spinning a birthday set of all 1989 jams.
Tours of our new “green” building (though it’s painted red!) will be ongoing throughout the day; the event is free for all ages. Try taking light rail, or bicycling to the boulevard via the American River Bike Trail.
Either way, please join us for our happy 21st birthday party: Let’s do this.
