Wonder Boys

A great film that nobody seems to be seeing. Michael Douglas delivers his best performance as a stoner English professor who’s having a hard time following up his first successful novel. Douglas put on a lot of weight for the role, and his saggy face is perfect for the character. The film follows him through some misadventures that include transvestites, dead dogs and Robert Downey Jr. (looking a little strung-out, but acting fine nonetheless). It would be nice to see Douglas remembered for his work at year’s end. Tobey Maguire and Frances McDormand also star.
