WinterFest at the Crest
Crest Theatre
1013 K St.Sacramento, CA 95814
In case you didn’t get a chance to eat Chinese food and watch movies over the holidays, you can catch up this weekend. The Sacramento Film & Music Festival is holding its inaugural WinterFest, a three-day festival at the Crest Theatre. It screens a total of 31 films from all over the world, from light-hearted to serious ones, including a few documentaries. Additionally, from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Julianne Gabert Casting will hold an open casting call. Saturday and Sunday night each feature a musical performer at 7:30 p.m.: Andrew Heringer and Autumn Sky. Those nights also end with narrative feature films at 8 p.m.: Boy Wonder on Saturday and Febbre da Fieno on Sunday. As a tribute to the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., Monday’s films are documentaries on peace, politics and civil rights. The festival ends with Sowing the Seeds of Justice, a documentary about Cruz Reynoso, California’s first Chicano Supreme Court justice, appointed by Gov. Jerry Brown during his first term.
WinterFest happens Saturday and Sunday 1:30-8 p.m., and Monday 1:30-7:30 p.m. The festival is separated into 11 screening events, each costing $10. An all-festival pass costs $60, or $20 for students. Visit www.sacfilm.com for more info.
