When greener heads prevail
Yolo County deserves a round of applause this week. Its new-ish Herbert Bauer M.D. Health and Alcohol, Drug & Mental Health Building recently joined the EPA Green Power Partnership. During peak demand hours, 40 percent of the building’s power is generated by a solar-cell system that saves the equivalent energy used by 200 homes and annually prevents 600 tons of carbon-dioxide emissions. Possession of a green building isn’t groundbreaking by itself. But board of supervisors chairwoman Mariko Yamada quipped weeks ago at a Sacramento Metro Chamber of Commerce luncheon that “democracy is alive and well in Yolo county” when it comes to considering green and sustainable changes.
