What Is Chagrin?
It’s something like regret,
she says, but more impatient.
Makes a face.
Oh, he says: Exasperation.
Something like that, yes.
But sadder, much sadder.
And he sees the sadness creep
into her features. Thinks his
question brought this on.
And feels chagrined.
