What about the dogs?
From the Whole Earth Festival to the Dixon May Fair, Mother’s Day weekend is rife with activities targeted toward families. But how many of these allow dogs? For people who consider their dogs official family members, there is only one entertainment option: the sixth annual Canine Craze. Forget the nitpicky judging style of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. The dogs at the Canine Craze compete in categories we all can appreciate: longest ears, best musical howl, waggiest tail, best trick, smallest and biggest dog, best-dressed dog, and master/mutt look-alikes. And to make sure all this competition is fun for the dogs, too, there’ll be hot-dog bobbing throughout the event. The Canine Craze ensues on Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon, which leaves plenty of time to attend dog-free events in the afternoon. Admission is free at Carmichael Park, located at 5750 Grant Avenue in Carmichael. Call (916) 485-5322 for preregistration or more information.
