Wet paint
For anyone who loves paint, the work of Sheldon Greenberg is clearly a treat. Seldom do we encounter someone who understands and loves his medium as much as Greenberg. Compositionally speaking, these are simple works—not boring, just basic. What this does for this artist is it allows him the freedom to explore and indulge in wet, directly applied color. It’s clear that Greenberg gets great pleasure from the process of pushing paint around. Anyone who has ever tried it, and realizes how hard it is to maintain clarity, consistency, brilliance and all of the other dazzling aspects that can be attained with oil paint, knows all too well that it’s not nearly as easy as he makes it look. Thus, we should celebrate his performances. New work by Sheldon Greenberg is on display at the Solomon Dubnick Gallery, 2131 Northrop Ave., May 10-June 2.
