“Weird Al” Yankovic
Straight Outta Lynwood
After three long years, “Weird Al” is back and couldn’t be better. The undisputed prince of parody delivers five send-ups, six original songs and the inevitable polka. Green Day’s “American Idiot” takes a trip north of the border for “Canadian Idiot,” and “White and Nerdy,” a parody of Chamillionaire’s “Ridin’,” is classic Al worthy of placement beside “Like a Surgeon” and “Amish Paradise.” The only original track that falls flat is “Virus Alert,” but the ingenious “Don’t Download This Song” picks up the slack by ripping the record companies a new one. At the end, a trio of cynical love songs, two of which parody R. Kelly and Taylor Hicks, work wonderfully together. We missed you, Al, and now that you’ve gotten your hands on an American Idol winner, we can’t wait for your next concert tour.
