Wed, Oct 27, Best Coast
Odd Fellows Lodge, 8 p.m., $5-$10
Fronted by Bethany Cosentino, Best Coast is part of the current wave of retro-inspired indie-girl groups (think Vivian Girls, Dum Dum Girls), and the sound is vintage ’60s pop at its best: beachy, breezy melodies, wistfully lo-fi vocals and enough Phil Spector-worthy reverb to blanket the listener in fuzzy, nostalgic warmth. It’s a noteworthy change of pace for Cosentino, a former child actress who once recorded teen-pop tracks under the name Bethany Sharayah and was considered a legit contender for the Britney crown. You’ve come a long way, baby. 415 Second Street in Davis, http://bestycoasty.blogspot.com.
