Wed., July 31, Kid Rock
Sleep Train Amphitheatre, 6:40 p.m., $20-$65
By this point in his massively successful career, Kid Rock can pretty much do anything he wants—including playing $20-a-ticket concerts as a way of giving scalpers and Ticketmaster the finger. But is this really a surprise? He's given us ridiculous (and catchy) rap-rock hits like “Bawitdaba,” moved on to power ballads like “Only God Knows Why,” recorded a country duet with Sheryl Crow and riffed on the Lynyrd Skynyrd classic “Sweet Home Alabama” with “All Summer Long.” The rock, rap-rock and alternative genres have largely lacked originality during the last 15 years, but Rock's musical creativity has made him a surprising exception. 2677 Forty Mile Road in Wheatland, www.kidrock.com.
