Tristeza guitarist Jimmy LaValle just released his fifth album under the Album Leaf moniker. A Chorus of Storytellers, due out this week, is a startlingly pretty hybrid of neoclassical, indie jazz and dreamy shoegazer rock. The Album Leaf is, in theory, LaValle’s solo side project, but for his latest endeavor, LaValle called on his touring band to record the songs live. The result is a warmer, richer sound that evokes the likes of the Dirty Three and Sigur Rós. Song such as “There Is a Wind” and “Within Dreams” might bear suspiciously New Agey titles, but the music contained within those quotation marks is ethereal and meditative yet never overwrought or, worse, yawn-inducing. 2708 J Street, www.thealbumleaf.com.
