Thanks to a grant from the Department of Energy, the Sacramento Municipal Utility District and Sacramento State University are teaming up to study the usage patterns, electrical impacts and driver experiences of the Chevrolet Volt. Two Volts—to be used by university staff—were delivered to Sac State on October 31. In conjunction with the study, two new charging stations were installed on campus, one near Sacramento Hall and the other inside Parking Structure I. Both can fully recharge the car in four hours, half the time it takes to charge via a standard electrical outlet. Data and driver feedback will regularly be sent to SMUD.
Research from Stanford University; V3Solar; and Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications, Heinrich Hertz Institute HHI are all touting important new solar innovations.
