Vesak town
Talk about old as the hills: Buddhism is turning 2,600 this year. In honor of the milestone, Sacramento Buddhists will come together this weekend to celebrate Vesak, or Buddha Day. And a celebration called the Sacramento Buddhist Centennial Festival will take place at Kim Quang Temple. Saturday, May 28, at 7 p.m., the ceremony opens with a candlelight ceremony for peace. Celebration will continue Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with Buddhist cultural activities, cultural performances, an international food court and a wellness center.
It’s a great opportunity for the public and the interfaith community to come together and learn Buddhist teachings and cultural traditions from India, China, Vietnam, Laos, Japan and Sri Lanka. Speakers include spiritual leaders from Kim Quang Temple, the American Buddhist Seminary Temple, Wat Lao Buddharangsy, the Aranya Bodhi Hermitage, Chung Tai Zen Center, the Buddhist Church of Sacramento, Lion’s Roar Dharma Center, River Song Meditation and Sacramento Insight Meditation.
