Venus responds!
For all its old-timey resonance, bluegrass is a relatively modern (post-WW II) phenomenon. The bright, lace-like interplay between fiddle, mandolin, banjo and the occasional Dobro, underpinned by the more opaque sound of flat-picked guitar and standup bass, evoke the flavor of the Appalachian South like no other music. Factor in singing patterns you can trace back to Scotland and Ireland and chicken-skin harmonies, and you’ve got one intoxicating musical brew. Blue Highway, which features former Davis resident Rob Ickes, is one of the, if not the best bluegrass group on the touring circuit, and it’s coming to the Palms Playhouse on Thursday, October 25 at 8 p.m. The Palms is located a 726 Drummond Ave. in south Davis, cover’s $15, and you can call (530) 756-9901 for information.
