Dan Futterman, who played Robin Williams’ son in The Birdcage and stars in TV’s Judging Amy, is featured as Charlie—the gay, grieving New Yorker, whose narration is an interlacing tapestry of grim reality and fantasy. He is obsessed with urban legends, listens to the stories of and plays ruthless mind games with random strangers and nurtures a dark, violent fantasy of his own. This gritty, murky Manhattan nightmare, shot on Super 16 and digitally transferred to 35mm, is a harrowing, homoerotic tale of personal loss, narcissism, rage and revenge that ultimately feels more exploitative than cathartic.
