In One Hundred Apocalypses and Other Apocalypses (McSweeney's, $22), Lucy Corin's newest collection of short fiction, you won't find happy endings. Rather, what you'll discover are characters in all states of unrest. Corin expertly weaves some of the most unique short fiction together into a collection that reminds us of our attempts to understand our world and to somehow set things right. Throughout, Corin tries unconventional literary routes: “Vision Test Card,” for example, uses five different font sizes to tell its story, while “Eyes of Dogs,” features additional text in its margins.
