Unicorn of the sea cheese

Ever thought about synthesizing baker’s yeast to become like milk proteins and then using that engineered casein and old-fashioned cheese-making methods to create “the world’s first” totally vegan-but-not-a-substitute cheese? No? Well, a team of biohackers in the Bay Area from BioCurious and Counter Culture Labs have. They have already surpassed their $15,000 goal to fund the research and development on Indiegogo (www.indiegogo.com/projects/real-vegan-cheese), but they have a secondary goal: to hit $20,000 so they can make narwhal cheese. As soon as the unicorn of the sea’s genome is mapped, anyway. But if you hate their research, you can put an end to it: $10 million is all it takes for them to cease and “go work on something else.” Whaddya say, dairy industry? The campaign ends on August 10.
