Underworld Awakening 3D

The endless war between vampires and “lycans”—a snooty word for werewolf—continues, only now the humans are aware of it and claim to have exterminated the lycans; the vampires are next. This fourth installment in a franchise that has been stinking up theaters since 2003 is incoherent and assaultive, prompting the obvious question: Who pays real money to see this crap? The movie is plain garbage, and the fact that it took two directors and four writers to perpetrate it argues for an extraordinary level of ineptitude in all of them; they shall remain mercifully nameless here. Not so actors Stephen Rea and Charles Dance, who join star Kate Beckinsale in sullying their reputations; all should know better. It’s too soon to name the worst movie of 2012, but this one sets the bar pretty high—er, low.
