World War II is the setting for this intense, fact-based submarine thriller from director Jonathan Mostow (Breakdown). An American sub is sent to intercept a disabled German U-boat and capture a top-secret Enigma encryption contraption that has allowed the Nazis to dominate important Atlantic Sea lanes. The film’s familiar milieu, crewmen and men-at-war themes are booby-trapped with several exhilarating surprises, and Mostow delivers action scenes that are both visually dynamic and highly suspenseful. The cast includes Matthew McConaughey, Harvey Keitel, David Keith, Jon Bon Jovi, and Bill Paxton.
