Tues, Sept 1, Ariel Pink
Harlow’s, 8 p.m., $12.50
Remember “I wait, I wait, I wait for Kate” piping out of your KDVS-programmed radio speakers back in 2004? That minor college hit introduced discerning indie folk to the inscrutably off-key delights of Ariel “Ariel Pink” Rosenberg, a Los Angeles eccentric who makes dozens of strange lo-fi albums in his bedroom. He has commercially released a few of those recordings as Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, and now spreads the freak-funk gospel to clubs full of gawkers who watch him, mostly puzzled and frustrated, then perk up at the familiar strands of “Wait for Kate.” Some outsider music was never meant for public consumption, but that’s not the case with Ariel Pink. 2708 J Street, www.arielpink.com.
