Tues, Nov 30, The Queers
Blue Lamp, 8 p.m., $10
During the height of San Francisco-based Lookout! Records’ popularity in the ’90s, it seemed bizarre that the same label that sported mostly gay punk band Pansy Division had no problem signing an all-straight band named the Queers (both bands were heavily inspired by the music of the Ramones, and both were lead by guys named Joe). In a city known for protests, it’s surprising they never had much backlash. But what is truly impressive about the Queers is that they have been around for an amazing 28 years, and leader Joe King, a.k.a. Joe Queer, is still stubbornly trudging forward with a new album and a new tour. 1400 Alhambra Boulevard, www.thequeersusaband.com.
