If you are familiar with the band Asobi Seksu, you’ve probably heard it described as shoegaze, nu gaze or dream gaze. One Pitchfork writer even called band members “at-home knob twiddlers.” Though all of these are simply complicated ways of saying it plays mellow, droning music that has a certain je ne sais quoi, making it pleasing, yet hard to categorize. But what is certain is its consistent popularity over the past decade.
