Tues, July 5, Pink Martini
Mondavi Center, 8 p.m., $35-$75
This 12-piece Portland, Ore., outfit emerged in the ’90s buoyed by the swing revival. While others emphasize jump blues and jazz, Pink Martini explores swing’s sophisticated side, including moody big-band balladry, lounge, cabaret and classic pop. Guest singer Storm Large, from 2006’s Rock Star: Supernova, will be replacing vocalist China Forbes, who is undergoing vocal surgery. The band released but a single album, 1997’s Sympathique, during its first decade, but has four discs in the last seven years, including a 2010 holiday album, Joy to the World and 2009’s Splendor in the Grass, showcasing a deft touch on world music. 9399 Old Davis Road in Davis, www.pinkmartini.com.
