Tues, July 14, Amadou & Mariam
Sleep Train Amphitheatre, 7 p.m., $24.25-$97.50
Playing together since 1974, Amadou & Mariam are exactly who you don’t expect to see opening for a band like Coldplay. Honestly, though, I’m not sure what group they should be opening for, since, truth be told, they ought to be headlining tours instead of opening them. The band recorded the anthem to the 2006 FIFA World Cup. They play a beautiful mix of Malian jazz, rock and blues, along with many obscure worldly influences. What is most impressive is the happily married couple met at the Mali Institute for the Young Blind.
