Tues, Feb 9, Chris Shiflett, Tony Sly
The Boardwalk, 7:30 p.m., $12
It’s time to get your rock on—but very, very quietly. Chris Shiflett, who once did time with alt-rock icons Foo Fighters, teams with No Use for a Name singer-songwriter Tony Sly for a low-key acoustic show that should shred any aural conceptions you have of the two musicians. With a penchant for jangly melodies and pop hooks, Shiflett now fronts his own band, the Dead Peasant, and the sound traverses between pop, folk and country. Similarly, Sly’s own solo sound is sweet, reflective and melancholy—more Elliott Smith or Simon & Garfunkel than his band’s pop-punk sensibilities. Quiet is totally the new loud. 9426 Greenback Lane in Orangevale; www.boardwalkrocks.com.
