It’s fitting that Social Distortion’s new album is called Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes. The band has survived drug addiction, trouble with the law and even death since forming in 1978 in Fullerton, Calif. Guitarist, lead singer and main songwriter Mike Ness is the driving force behind Social D., and he’s the only original member left (the band has 17 former members). Despite its lack of commercial success, the band has released several impactful albums and a greatest-hits compilation. Besides, Social D. is one of the oldest punk bands in the state, if not the quintessential California punk band. 1 Shields Avenue in Davis, www.socialdistortion.com.
