Tues, Aug 25, Christmas Island
Blue Lamp, 9 p.m., $8
Christmas Island doesn’t sound at all like a San Diego band, which means ol’ S.D. punk/math rock/alt roots bands like the Album Leaf, No Knife and Slightly Stoopid, have grown into actual listenable bands like Crocodiles, et al. Good news. Christmas Island are more low-fi than the poppy Crocodiles: San Francisco garage à la a jankier Nodzzz. And this show—featuring Ganglians, said Crocs, Pens and Graffiti Island—will be epic in a completely slacker-ambitious way. Oh, and Christmas Island’s new album, Blackout Summer, will be out in September, with a really nice pop song called “Bed Island” that’s getting some Web play. 1400 Alhambra Boulevard, www.myspace.com/xmasisland.
