Tues, April 19, Afroman
Ace of Spades, 6 p.m., $18
I was going to finish this preview earlier, but then I got high. Yes, it’s the infamous Afroman, still functioning from his one major hit “Because I Got High” and his minor jingle “Crazy Rap”—sort of like a hip-hop stoner version of Andrew W.K. (most catchy one-hit wonders like them usually bow out amid label issues). Though the show is a near-miss on unofficial national pot-smoking day, many in the audience are sure to be complaining about “allergies.” Born Joseph Edgar Foreman, Afroman was actually nominated for a Grammy in 2002. I assume the nomination committee was high. 1417 R Street, www.afromanmusic.com.
