Tues., April 02, Phoenix
Freeborn Hall at UC Davis, 8 p.m., $39.50
It's been almost four years since French alternative rockers Phoenix unleashed its breakout album, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and boy did we eat it up. From the jangly, driving pop-rock hooks and dance-inducing chorus of “Lisztomania,” to the groovy and insanely catchy “1901” that record was full of knockout numbers which helped make it arguably the best summer album of 2009. Fans have been eagerly awaiting another record for a while now, and with Bankrupt! due out Tuesday, April 23, the wait is nearly over. The lead single, “Entertainment,” could be an indicator that we're in for a more a synth-heavy dance-rock collection, and that would be dandy. 1 Shields Avenue in Davis, www.wearephoenix.com.
