True blue
Blue velvet: South Sacramento doughnut shop Baker’s Donuts recently partnered with Dutch Bros. Coffee in Elk Grove (8610 Elk Grove Boulevard), giving you one more place to find the shop’s tasty treats. On a Saturday morning, you can avoid waiting in line if you just drive a little bit further. Maybe.
But there won’t be any croissant-doughnuts—and most likely not your favorite doughnut—at Dutch Bros., which carries just three Baker’s creations: standard glazed, vanilla glazed with Fruity Pebbles and blue velvet. The blue velvet doughnuts will be sold exclusively at Dutch Bros., and Baker’s Donuts owner Douglas Hem says they taste just like their red velvet doughnuts. But, ya know, they’re blue.
Hem also said Baker’s has no plans to partner up with any other Dutch Bros. locations. Sorry, Davis!
Gelato wars: Sactown Magazine reported that Italian deli and gelato shop Eatuscany will open at 1801 L Street, sometime this April. That’s just a couple of blocks away from Devine Gelateria. Eatuscany is also supposed to stock imported Italian goods and serve lunchtime sandwiches, much like Italian Importing Co., which is also just a couple of blocks away. This should be interesting.
New taproom: You’ve probably had Jackrabbit Brewing Co.’s saison by now—it’s a regular in Sacramento’s bar scene. But starting Friday, April 3, you can finally try it at the West Sacramento brewery (1323 Terminal Street).
Yes, it’s finally, actually, for real happening. Jackrabbit’s taproom will open up from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. April 3 and again the next day from noon to 9 p.m. There will be 10 beers on tap, including its well-known saison and other Belgian- and English-style ales. Expect to taste some new territory for Jackrabbit too, like an oatmeal stout and IPA.
Same farm: For the third year in a row, the Ruhstaller Farm & Yard Taproom opened up to the public last weekend for sunny good times. To find the farm, look for signs beckoning about 15 miles west of Sacramento and take the Kidwell Road exit.
Ruhstaller’s farm will be open from noon to 8 p.m. Friday through Sunday until the end of harvest season. Or whenever, if ever, it rains. Bring the kids, dogs and a picnic for some wholesome family fun. And beer.
