Totally effed up

Deborah Baer’s OMG! How to Survive 101 of Life’s Most F’ed Situations will leave most readers saying, “WTF?” since the advice on every page is offensive. Baer, a writer and editor for In Touch Weekly magazine, targets young women by offering tips on how to survive “F’ed” everyday situations like being mistaken for a prostitute (her suggestion: “Find out how much he’s willing to pay”). Cutesy, polka-dot pages sugarcoat Baer’s world of bigoted hypothetical situations: what to do if you think your boyfriend is gay, or if you happen to undress in the same locker room as a lesbian (in that case, Baer writes, “That’s like putting a hungry snake and a rat in the same cage,” and goes on to say that “vagitarians” should be legally required to undress elsewhere). If you’re looking for a good laugh, the unrealistic, hypothetical situations of her world are a good start, but don’t buy it. You can borrow my copy.
