… to the streets of Sacramento

Sacramento area Gore supporters and others who are unhappy at the prospect of another George Bush entering the White House can take part in the presidential inauguration festivities right here at home.

Labor unions, NAACP and the Black Radical Congress will hold protests outside the State Capitol on Jan. 20 around 1 p.m. protesting George W. Bush’s conservative nominees for key Cabinet positions, and urging the new president to be respectful of the needs of minorities and workers.

Details on the protests are still being formulated. For more information contact Pilar Barton at enekamu@yahoo.com.

In fact, it’s going to be a big week for left-leaning protests in Sacramento. On Jan. 16, the Sacramento-Yolo chapter of Peace Action will hit the streets of downtown Sacramento from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for the International Day of Protest. For more information contact (916) 448-7157.

This annual event highlights the ongoing economic sanctions and bombing campaigns that a U.S.-led coalition has waged against Iraq since its 1990 invasion of Kuwait. That invasion by Iraq prompted the first President Bush to launch the Gulf War.
