Amel Larrieux first emerged as one-half of Groove Theory, soaring into the Billboard top 10 with her hit “Tell Me.” You could categorize her career since then as failing to live up to that first number. But the New York singer-songwriter doesn’t mind being classified as a one-hit wonder, as she’s carved out a substantive and devoted following for lush adult-contemporary albums. So what to expect at her upcoming Avalon gig? I’m guessing an impeccably dressed crowd will turn out to hear Ms. Larrieux belt out familiar covers, smooth ballads and uptempo indie soul with her sweet, deceptively light voice.
