Thurs, Oct 29, Ozomatli
Sacramento State University, 7:30 p.m., $15-$20
The members of Ozomatli first came together in 1995 with the intent to make music and a political statement at Southern California labor protest rallies. But just because their intent is rooted in politics doesn’t mean Ozomatli doesn’t know how to party. With music that marries salsa and Latin pop with decidedly North American elements such as hip-hop, jazz and rock ’n’ roll, the eight-piece has built its reputation via tireless touring and grassroots activism. Their efforts have won them Grammy awards, performances for presidents and even a plum U.S. State Department gig serving as musical ambassadors overseas.
