Thurs., May 16, Folsom Lake Concert Choir
Three Stages at Folsom Lake College, 8 p.m., $5-$10
Igor Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring caused uproar when it premiered in 1913. To celebrate the centennial of this innovative yet scandalous piece, the Folsom Lake College music department presents “A Hundred Year Retrospective.” The FLC choir will premiere new works by Eliot Drell and FLC music department chair Larry Metcalf. And it'll perform A. Oscar Haugland's “Magazine Madrigals” and “Havenu Shalom Alechem,” an Israeli folk song. Joining the FLC Concert Choir are FLC's Jazz Choir, Jazz Experience, Afro-Cuban Funk Band (pictured) and Chamber Orchestra to perform works from the last 100 years, including selections from The Rite of Spring. 10 College Parkway in Folsom, www.threestages.net.
