Thurs, June 2, Foster the People
Harlow’s, 10 p.m., $9.47
Get up, get down. Los Angeles trio Foster the People makes the kind of dance music that won’t make you hate yourself in the morning. Yes, there are plenty of booty-shaking vibes, but the vibe is more about a carefree embracement of life than boozy, trip-on-your stilettos trashiness. Songs such as “Pump Up the Kicks” and “Houdini,” both from the band’s debut album Torches, sizzle with a ’70s roller-disco boogie vibe that’s owes as much to the Bee Gees and ABBA as it does to Three’s Company and Charlie’s Angels. This is unapologetically candy-coated nostalgia—innocent but totally ready for prime time. 2708 J Street, www.fosterthepeople.com.
