It has always seemed Grand Archives’ Mat Brooke was bound to be on Sub Pop Records. His first band, Carissa’s Weird, actually had a 7-inch released on the label. Then Brooke left to help form Band of Horses, whose album Everything All the Time, Brooke’s only release with the band, was also released on Sub Pop. It seemed fitting that Grand Archives was scooped up by the label that has been acquainted with Brooke’s alt-Americana sound so well. Also, I strongly suggest ignoring the paltry five that Pitchfork gave their latest album; give these guys an honest listen. 129 E Street in Davis; www.grandarchives.com.
