Thurs, July 21, Langhorne Slim
Blue Lamp, 9 p.m., $12
Not all of us can be born poor, black children, like Steve Martin’s character in The Jerk. According to Langhorne Slim, this realization has taken him 27 years to accept. Although he hasn’t lived up to his own expectations, he greatly exceeded everyone else’s. Slim’s résumé is impressive, covering movie soundtracks, the nation’s biggest festivals and even Letterman. While attending Purchase College State University of New York, Slim found his niche in the music world, and he cleverly placed himself somewhere between folk, blues and punk rock. By combining melody and gut-wrenching lyrics with an explosive personality, this sound is truly his own. 1400 Alhambra Boulevard, www.langhorneslim.com.
