Thurs, July 1, Lionel Richie
Thunder Valley Amphitheatre, 8:30 p.m., $49-$139
Most kids today know celebutante daughter Nicole better than dad. Maybe they’ve danced to a cliché turn of “All Night Long” at an ’80s-themed party. But some of us know and remember Lionel Richie’s music without so much as a hint of irony. As frontman for the Commodores, Richie sang funky and soulful tunes like “Brick House”; as a solo act, he kept things smooth and “easy like Sunday morning.” The two-time Grammy winner’s career is laden with top singles, including five consecutive No. 1 hits in as many years. Plus, Richie is a major supporter of breast cancer research, having raised more than $3.1 million for the cause. Now that’s hot. 1200 Athens Avenue in Lincoln; www.thundervalleyresort.com.
