Meklit Hadero may be a lovely Ethiopian-American woman, but don’t assume that she’ll sing acoustic soul for you. The former Yale student, New York University artist-in-residence and 2009 TED Global Fellow performs a blend of folk music and vocal jazz. Her 2010 debut, On a Day Like This, includes self-penned material as well as covers of the Ethiopian folk traditional “Abbay Mado” and Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good.” Hadero often appears around her home in the San Francisco Bay Area, but this Thursday evening she’ll travel to Sophia’s Thai Kitchen in Davis for a visit.
