Thurs, Aug 25, Kottonmouth Kings
Ace of Spades, 6 p.m., $25
It’s always 4:20 for the Kottonmouth Kings, whose lifestyle choice informs almost every song they write from “Stay Stoned” and “Stonetown” to “The Munchies.” For nearly two decades, the Orange County outfit’s blazed minimalist beats that hark back to Dr. Dre, spitting with intensity ’bout their sticky green sacrament while evoking a variety of styles from stoner rock and blues psych to garage punk. At times on their reggae-inflected latest, Sunshine Sessions, they suggest a harder-rapping Sublime. At other times, they get hippie-dippy with the sunny “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”-esque folk jam “Be Alright.” Puff, puff, pass. 1417 R Street, www.kottonmouthkings.com.
