Thurs, Aug 19, Dame Darcy
Old Ironsides, 9 p.m., $5
Underground comic book artist Dame Darcy is best known for her Meatcake comic series, published intermittently since 1993. But Darcy is a renowned musician as well, and now she’s taking her Death by Doll music act on the road. On her latest CD, Cabin Fever, Darcy and band move away from the dreamy, gothic electronica of 2006’s Gasoline in favor of rousing ocean-themed songs about pirate booty, drunken sailors and sea-induced hallucinations. The music is spellbinding and beautiful, but there is whimsy, too—jaunty notes and stirring melodies. Each song is a story of intrigue and drama and, like a good book, worth repeated visits. 1901 10th Street, www.damedarcy.com.
