This week’s blues fix
Need to hear some blistering guitar that gets under your skin like a howling wind? Head out to Folsom this Saturday and get an earful of Coco Montoya. The Southern California player, who spent five years drumming for Albert Collins in the ’70s, picked up the guitar around the same time, and Collins schooled him real good. Montoya also cut some blues’ teeth playing in a later edition of John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers—which is to say that this gentleman is no dilettante. He rocks.
Coco Montoya plays 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at the Powerhouse Pub, 614 Sutter St., Folsom. Tickets are $10.
