Things—and people—change

She might be bored, but you won’t be.

This play’s title—Circle Mirror Transformation—is elusive, and the plotline isn’t easy to explain, either. Five people, ages 16 to 55, meet at a community center for an acting class. In a mosaic of short scenes spanning six weeks, we observe relationship (romantic and otherwise) and interpersonal tensions wax and wane, like time-lapse photography. It’s not a romantic comedy or a drama, but it’s a good script (winner of the 2010 Obie Award for Best New American Play) and well-cast, including a worthy effort by acting intern Cynthia Zitter, who does well amidst four pros. Director Buck Busfield’s light touch lets the personalities gradually emerge. It’s a pleasant change of pace for B Street’s Mainstage series.
