They call it ‘rock’

There are pleasant, mannered sounds—the sort of thing you can put on as background music for Sunday brunch with Mom and Dad. And then there is Sonic Love Affair (SLA), a local quintet whose high-volume but primitive Stooges- and MC5-rooted noise is just the thing to clear those January cobwebs from your head. SLA will be playing a “Punk & Soul Dance Party” at Old Ironsides, 1901 10th Street, this Saturday, January 10, with another local band of ill repute, Th’ Losin’ Streaks. The festivities commence around 9 p.m., and $5 gets you in. And on the “long-haired dudes with Gibson guitars” tip, Blackberry Smoke is at the Roadhouse, 1556 Bell Avenue, on Thursday, January 8. Doors open at 8 p.m., and $8 gets you in. Bic lighter not included.
