The Wedding Date
Hollywood’s hooker-with-a-heart-of-gold chestnut gets the male-escort treatment here in a terminally predictable, often-flat romantic comedy from director Clare Kilner (
How to Deal). Jilted fiancée Kat (Debra Messing) hires a professional ladies’ man (Dermot Mulroney) to accompany her to her sister’s wedding in England, where her former lover is to be the best man. Both charismatic leads and their chemistry are wasted here, as secrets and deceptions pepper the proceedings like ill-timed handfuls of rice. As a word of caution to parents, the PG-13 rating is yet another travesty of the Motion Picture Association of America rating system that attempts to camouflage the implicit sexual content of the film.
