The year was 1979, the day May 24. Former NBA player Tracy McGrady was born—but no one knew he would one day be a basketball star. What they did know for sure was that a show with Johnny Carson was on that night. That fateful production is the subject of The Tonight Play. It’s a live-action reproduction of the entire episode that debuted 40 years ago, featuring local actors in the roles of Johnny and his guests.
